ANDREW COUGHLIN NAMED AS MASL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

UTICA, NY - The Major Arena Soccer League announced Tuesday that goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin was named the MASL Defensive Player of the Week after notching two wins on the weekend against the Harrisburg Heat and rival Baltimore Blast. Coughlin was a crucial part of those wins, allowing only two goals to Baltimore, denying the Heat all game long, and constantly firing up the crowd in between plays. His save on Lucas Roque was especially notable, leaping across to keep the ball out of the back of the net with the tip of his fingers on a perfectly-placed strike.

Coughlin had a huge smile on his face as he found out about being named for the award. "It feels really good but at the same time, that’s gotta be looked at as a team award. I think we defended really well this weekend and it ended up making my job a little bit easier. I think we’re in a really good spot right now— we still have a lot of work to do but to see the culmination of all the work we’ve put in up to this point start to produce results feels good and we’re excited to continue on that trend."

Coach Hewerton Moreira reiterated the feeling: "I’m extremely happy and proud of Andrew. He works hard each and every day. All this hard work is showing. Well deserved!"

Utica City FC travels to Mexico to take on Chihuahua and Monterrey on March 3 and 5. Their next home game is against their Eastern Conference rival Florida Tropics on March 12. Tickets are available now on ucfctickets.com
