HEWERTON MOREIRA NAMED NEXT HEAD COACH OF UTICA CITY FC

Indoor soccer veteran Hewerton Moreira has been named the next Head Coach of Utica City FC, per General Manager Tommy Tanner.

A native of Santos, Brazil, Moreira played for Utica City this season after coaching the St. Louis Ambush and Cedar Rapids Rampage. He took over the Ambush after the 2016-17 season where they finished 1-19, and brought the organization back to the playoffs.

Moreira enjoyed a 15-season career as a player, appearing in 301 games and posting 198 goals and 174 assists. Prior to Utica City, he played with the Milwaukee Wave, San Diego Sockers, and the St. Louis Ambush. He won three league championships during his seven years with the Wave.

“I would like to thank Rob Esche and Tommy Tanner for this opportunity and trust, Moreira said.  “I’m extremely excited to be back coaching in the MASL after a spending a year with my family and studying the game.”

General Manager Tommy Tanner said that Moreira is a perfect fit, “We are incredibly excited for the players, fans and our organization to be able to bring in Hewerton to be our next head coach. His knowledge of the indoor game and his passion for coaching is inspiring. I look forward to working with him, and helping him bring a championship team to Utica.”

We are thrilled to take that next step for our organization, and we feel Hewerton is the person for that challenge,” said team President Robert Esche. “We have a lot of work to do this off season and our coach is the first building block in that process. Hewerton will be instrumental in building a championship contender night-in and night-out.”

Moreira echoed both Tanner and Esche’s desire to bring a title to the Adirondack Bank Center, “Utica has an amazing upbeat fan base and great community that I can’t wait to be a part of. The organization built a solid foundation for the team and I am looking forward to working with the players to help them achieve our team goals.”
