Utica, N.Y. – Utica City FC forward Slavisa Ubiparipovic will be making an appearance on the international stage next month. City’s top goal scorer from last season will be representing the United States in this year’s World Minifootball World Cup in Perth, Australia. The tournament will run from October 1 through October 11.

“I am obviously honored and thankful to represent the U.S. National Minifootball team. It is every athlete’s dream to one day suit up in the their country’s colors and I am fortunate to be selected as one of the athletes to do that for my country,” Ubiparipovic said. “I am excited and eager to help the US soccer grow in any way possible and will do my best to represent my country, my club team, and myself in the best way possible.”

Thirty-two teams from five continents will participate in the biennial tournament. The U.S. draws into Group H alongside Brazil, Argentina, and South Africa.

The U.S. won the inaugural WMF World Cup in 2015 but was toppled in the Knockout Stage by Mexico in the 2017 tournament.

Slav and the U.S. kickoff the tournament on October 2 against Argentina followed by an October 4 matchup against South Africa before wrapping up the Group Stage with a showdown with Brazil on October 6. The top two finishers in Group H will advance to the Knockout Stage.

Ubiparipovic will be back in time to start Utica City’s second season. The 2019-20 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
