UCFC FALLS IN ST. LOUIS AFTER HOT START

A strong opening quarter wasn’t enough for Utica City FC, as St. Louis Ambush responded with a dominant stretch over the final three periods to earn a 7–4 victory.

Utica wasted no time setting the tone, striking first at 8:24 of the opening quarter when Geo Alves found the back of the net off a feed from Willie Spurr. Just over a minute later, Meny Silva doubled the advantage, finishing a chance created by Cole Stephens to give UCFC an early 2–0 cushion. The Ambush answered at the 12:00 mark behind Mario Falsone, but Utica maintained control of the pace and regained its two-goal lead when Juan Salazar converted at 13:27, with Sergio Pinal credited on the assist. After one quarter of play, UCFC held a confident 3–1 lead and appeared in command.

The momentum began to shift in the second quarter as St. Louis increased its pressure and capitalized on its opportunities. Falsone struck again just over two minutes into the frame to bring the Ambush within one, and the equalizer followed midway through the quarter when Daniel Torrealba finished off a setup from John Gates to make it 3–3. The Ambush continued to push forward, and their persistence paid off at 12:41 when Ozzy Santana scored to give St. Louis its first lead of the night at 4–3 heading into halftime.

St. Louis carried that momentum into the third quarter and quickly created separation. Torrealba added his second goal of the game at 4:23, extending the lead to 5–3, before Santana matched him with his second of the night at 10:34 to make it 6–3. During this stretch, the Ambush dictated the tempo on both ends of the floor, limiting Utica’s offensive chances while consistently generating scoring opportunities of their own.

In the fourth quarter, St. Louis continued to apply pressure and effectively put the game out of reach when William Eskay found the back of the net at 2:25, pushing the lead to 7–3. Utica showed some late fight, as Sergio Pinal netted a goal at 4:59 to cut into the deficit, but the rally would go no further as the Ambush controlled the remainder of the contest.

After building a two-goal lead early, Utica was unable to sustain its offensive rhythm, managing just one goal over the final three quarters. Meanwhile, St. Louis found its stride after the opening frame, scoring six of the final seven goals to complete the comeback and secure the win.
