UTICA CITY BEGINS TEXAS TWO STEP IN MESQUITE

Tonight’s Game: Utica City heads southwest to take on the Mesquite Outlaws for the first time ever. Kickoff is at 8:35 p.m. EST.

Last Game: Utica City jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back in an 11-3 win over the Rochester Lancers Sunday afternoon at the Adirondack Bank Center. Bo Jelovac netted a hat trick, while Liam Callahan scored twice and Nate Bourdeau, Cristhian Segura, Moises Gonzalez, Momo, Mauricio Salles and Tim Goldman also chipped in with one goal apiece. Matt Perrella got the start in net and made seven saves on 10 shots.

Scouting the Outlaws: Mesquite comes in with a record of 4-10 and sits in sixth place in the Western Division. They most recently fell to the Ontario Fury 7-0 last Friday. Jamie Lovegrove and VcMor Eligwe lead the way offensively with 15 points apiece. Eduardo Cortes is the top goalkeeper with a record of 4-10, a 5.43 goals-against average, and a .686 save percentage.

Bo-nanza: Bo Jelovac is starting to heat up on offense. Jelovac has 12 points (6-6-12) in his last four games and has put up multi-point games in three of his last four games. The captain has 21 points (9-12-21) in 12 games this year.

Spreading the Wealth: A big part of Utica’s success this season can be attributed to their ability to get offense from all throughout the lineup. Of the 17 players to have played at least one game this season, all but one player picked up at least a point. Eleven of those players have five points or more, while six players have 10 or more points. The team is led by Cristhian Segura. Bo Jelovac, and Ricardo Diegues with over 20 points each.

Back on Track: After having his four-game point streak snapped two weeks ago, Cristhian Segura has responded nicely. Segura is currently riding a three-game point streak where he’s picked up four points (3-1-4). He also has five points (3-2-5) in his last four road games. The midfielder has 23 points (16-7-23) in 12 games this season.

Finding A Groove: Momo has started to come into his own in his young MASL career. Momo has four goals in his last five games. He also has goals in two of his last three road games. The midfielder has eight points (7-1-8) in 12 games this season.

Next Game: Utica City goes right back at it tomorrow night against the Dallas Sidekicks in a Valentine’s Day showdown. Kickoff at the Allen Events Center is at 8:35 p.m. EST. The game can be viewed on MASL.tv.
