UTICA STUNNED BY KANSAS CITY IN OVERTIME

Utica, N.Y. – Utica City surrendered five unanswered goals as they fell 7-6 in overtime to the Kansas City Comets Sunday afternoon at the Adirondack Bank Center. Moises Gonzalez and Cristhian Segura scored twice while Momo and Nate Bourdeau each added a goal. Andrew Coughlin made nine saves on 16 shots.

Bourdeau struck first for Utica, taking a pass from Ben Ramin and beating the keeper far post off of a restart with 5:36 to play in the opening quarter. Gonzalez poked a shot past the keeper to double the lead two and a half minutes later after Ramin and Bo Jelovac teamed up to create a turnover inside the arc.

Momo made it 3-0 16 seconds into the second quarter, tapping in a back-post feed from Darren Toby. Robert Palmer got Kansas City on the board two minutes later on a fast break. Segura answered back on a set piece at the 4:40 mark of the quarter by making a defender miss and blowing a shot past the keeper.

John Sosa cut Utica’s lead in half 57 seconds into the third quarter when his shot deflected off Bourdeau and Coughlin. Segura added his second of the game with 6:40 to go in the third, ripping a shot to the top corner to put Utica up 5-2. Gonzalez tallied a power play marker a minute and a half later after receiving a back-heel pass from Jelovac and beating the keeper low.

With the sixth attacker on, Adam James put Kansas City back within three with 3:44 to play. Palmer scored on the power play 41 seconds later to cut the deficit to two. Palmer scored on a rebound with 1:03 remaining in regulation to make it 6-5 Utica. Palmer struck again on a rebound to tie the game at six with 19 seconds remaining.

Gui Gomes scored 27 seconds into overtime to win the game.

Utica City is back in action Wednesday night when they hit the road to take on division-rival Harrisburg Heat. Kickoff at the PA Farm Show Arena is at 7:35 p.m. The game can be viewed on MASL.tv.
